Oklahoma County Ends

Wedding Docket and

Courthouse Weddings By

Clergy

Oklahoma    County    ended    their    marriage    docket    in 2007,     effectively     ending     courthouse     weddings     by judges.    In    more    recent    years,    most    other    Oklahoma counties      have      followed      suit      and      ended      their courthouse     wedding     dockets     as     well.     Today,     the simplest,   fastest   way   to   elope   in   Oklahoma   is   to   use   a professional    wedding    minister    or    officiant    like    Rev. Huber.    In    addition,    Oklahoma    County    has    posted signage   quoting   statute   and   stating   that   clergy   are   not allowed    to    solicit    on    county    property.    Said    statute specifically    prohibits    the    performance    of    a    marriage ceremony    on    county    property    by    clergy.    See    Statute Below. 2014 Oklahoma Statutes Title 43. Marriage and Family §43-16.   Soliciting   in   or   near   court   house   or   grounds prohibited. Universal Citation: 43 OK Stat § 43-16 (2014) It   shall   be   unlawful   for   any   person   to   solicit   directly   or indirectly   within   any   courthouse,   premises   or   grounds or   lots   on   which   a   courthouse   may   be   located   in   any county   within   the   State   of   Oklahoma   for   himself   or   for and   on   behalf   of   any   minister   of   the   Gospel   or   other person, the performance of a marriage ceremony. Laws 1941, p. 169, § 1.
